Enhanced social space

As transformation specialists, Berkeley Partnership are well aware of the power of shared biophilic space, and how it can foster collaboration and a sense of shared culture – extending this philosophy to their outside space was the natural next step. Two terraces offered the ideal opportunity for restorative spaces, where employees can step away from the desk and enjoy a little slice of nature.

Planting that delivers

Vantage Spaces undertook detailed site surveys to ensure the planting schemes would remain interesting and thrive all year round with minimal maintenance. Each terrace had a different orientation with its own microclimate, so planting was chosen accordingly whilst ensuring that both terraces had a coherent look and feel, and a seamless flow between inside and out. A mix of feature trees introduce, height, privacy and a sense of enclosure, positioned to fit circulation routes and natural desire lines. This makes the terraces intuitive to navigate and comfortable to use, from quiet solo breaks to team socials and events.

Engineered aesthetic

The brief called for the warm tones of Corten steel displayed on a neighbouring terrace, but the rooftop substrate couldn’t support traditional metal planters. Vantage Spaces engineered a bespoke solution to meet the brief: Corten-coated fibreglass troughs and planters to give all the architectural character of Corten steel, but without the weight, or the expense.

Biophilic terraces

Having enhanced outdoor spaces can help to draw people into the workplace, providing opportunities to socialise in surroundings they may not have at home. Berkeley Partnership’s terraces support informal meetings, special events and quiet moments of repose, strengthening the firm’s shared culture in the process. They are vibrant extensions of the office - enhancing wellbeing, encouraging collaboration and reflecting the company’s commitment to creating an environment where its people can thrive.
