The spaces between: using planting to bring a workplace together
For organisations like Centralis, where professionalism, attention to detail and client experience are central to the business, the workplace environment plays an important role in shaping everyday interactions. So when the company began refurbishing its office, the brief was refreshingly simple:
"We're looking to refresh the look, and definitely add more plants."
But the most successful planting schemes are rarely just about adding more greenery. They're about how greenery helps a space feel. The areas between meeting rooms, workstations and collaboration spaces. The transitions people move through every day without giving them much thought.
As an existing client, Centralis already knew the value planting could bring to the workplace. Our role was to help create a scheme that felt completely at home within their newly refurbished office, while introducing more greenery throughout the space.
Looking at the whole picture
Our process started with a site visit to understand how the refurbished workplace was taking shape and what the client wanted to achieve.
One thing that quickly stood out was the attention to detail within the interior design. Subtle patterns, carefully chosen finishes and a consistent palette had already established a strong visual identity throughout the office.
Rather than treating planting as a separate feature, we looked at how it could become part of that wider story. Every decision, from the choice of plants to the selection of planters, was made with the surrounding environment in mind.
Building on what the client already loved
Because we'd worked with Centralis before, we already had a good understanding of which plants had worked well in the space and which varieties the team particularly liked.
Instead of starting again, we used those favourites as the foundation for the new scheme. By building on what was already working, we were able to create a fuller, more impactful planting scheme while keeping a sense of familiarity.
It's an approach we often find delivers the best results. Sometimes the strongest ideas come from evolving what's already there rather than replacing it entirely.
Bringing the spaces between to life
The final scheme includes 34 floor standing and tabletop displays, positioned throughout the workplace to create a consistent presence of greenery.
Rather than focusing on a single feature area, the planting has been spread across the office to help connect different zones and create a more cohesive experience.
Floorstanding plants help anchor key spaces, while tabletop displays bring greenery closer to where people work, meet and collaborate every day.
Together, they create a sense of continuity that runs throughout the workplace, making the office feel more connected, more welcoming and more complete.
The details matter
The planters played an important role in achieving the overall look.
During our site visit, we noticed recurring patterns and design details throughout the office, including the use of stripes and tonal contrasts. We used these observations to help guide our planter selection, choosing styles and finishes that complemented the wider interior scheme.
The result is a planting solution that feels considered and integrated, rather than something that's simply been added afterwards.
A fully managed rental solution
All planting was supplied through a rental agreement and is supported by our ongoing maintenance service.
This means the Centralis team can enjoy all the benefits of a thriving planting scheme without having to worry about day-to-day upkeep. Our maintenance team ensures the displays continue to look their best, helping the investment deliver long-term value.
The result
The refurbished Centralis office now has a stronger connection to nature, with planting woven throughout the workplace in a way that enhances both the environment and the overall experience of the space.
By building on the client's existing preferences, responding to the character of the interior and introducing greenery at multiple levels, we created a scheme that feels natural, cohesive and distinctly Centralis.
Most importantly, the client was delighted with the outcome and pleased to continue their partnership with Vantage Spaces as their workplace evolves.
