Blending heritage and creativity

Originally built as a hospital in 1749, and subsequently becoming the home of a members’ club for the creative industries (The Hospital Club), this project came steeped in heritage, and we couldn’t wait to get started! We designed and installed planting for all six floors, including communal spaces, offices, dining and event spaces and reception. Retaining the character of the building was key and we chose large architectural plant species to match the grandness of atrium spaces. Much of the art and furniture was inherited from the former club, and we chose subtle, neutral pots to harmonise with the elegant luxury of the space.

Hospitality-led design

Collaboration and comfort were key drivers in this project, and communal areas are enhanced with a mix of trailing, floorstanding and table top planting. We’ve used similar designs across all six floors to bring the schemes together.

New planting concept

The architecture of the stairwell presented an opportunity to go big and bold with a cluster of floorstanding troughs and cubes packed full of tropical planting. We varied the species according to the light levels in this space –the striking spikes of outsize sanseveria and arching stems of strelitzia really add impact.

Brown to green refurb

This was very much a 'brown to green' project, refurbishing a very old building and repurposing, re-using and recycling wherever possible. Retaining the existing building reduced carbon emissions in the construction process, and 98% of on-site waste was recycled. Fifty additional trees were planted in the surrounding area to off-set any emissions. Living planting has been used throughout the space and all plants are supplied on a rental basis. Our rental packages come with full maintenance as standard, so all the planting at Patrizia will be nurtured by our skilled plant technicians on an ongoing basis.
