Biophilia | Green walls in workplace design.
Biophilia; an innate human attraction to nature.
The concept of biophilic design in the workplace has grown with significant speed over recent years.
Extending beyond more than just living plants and organisms however we can incorporate nature into our workplace design by many means and even the representation of nature can impact mental wellbeing. For example:
- Consider natural environmental features such as patterns that indicate nature
- Integrate natural forms and shapes, not just straight lines
- Use light, space and colour to imitate the natural environment
The use of replica walls and plants may not have the full scale of benefits that their real counterparts have to offer – benefits such as air purification and humidity – but replica can still have its place in contributing to biophilic design in the workplace.
It may be an imitation but we can still derive the feelings of stress relief and calm that we experience when surrounded by live greenery products.
Replica can also provide a suitable alternative where budgets are limited and maintenance is to be kept to a minimum – all that is required is a feather duster!
